Bringing a dog into China
How do I bring my beloved pet or dog into China?
Actually for me it was very easy. I recently brought my lil' dog Peanut back from the States into Qingdao. She and her travel container are under 10 lbs, so Asiana let her ride under my seat in the cabin. Korean Airlines has a similiar policy. Both airlines charge about $220 to do this.
I checked with the folks in Customs before making the trip and they said I needed proof of rabies vacination and a international health certificate from a Vet. Now, I do realize, even if one Chinese government worker says one thing, the situation could drastically change upon arrival, so I did not hold my breath.
Upon arrival, The customs lady waved me through, but I knew I should declare the dog, so I said "look I have a small dog". I waited a few moments for another customs lady, I showed the health certification, and rabies certificate. Then I filled out some paperwork and paid 20 rmb. That was it.
